Welcome to the Hupper Island Website

October is by far the most spectacular month at the Island. The warm days and cool evenings comfort and invigorate. And the more direct angle of the light from the fall sun creates a particular clarity and enhancement of colors. I took advantage of the fine mid-October weather to walk the Island.

Birch Glade

A quiet glade of birch trees, just beginning to change to their fall colors, nearly unfettered by intruding spruce.

Choices

Coices. Which of the two is Frost’s Road Less Traveled?

Fall Ferns

Fall ferns found near the old Indian spring.

Fall Blueberry Bushes

High Bush blueberry bushes truning colors near the Foss foundation.

Being on an island means that the usual focus is on the sea, shoreline and boats. I decided to look inward on this occasion to enjoy what the Island itself has to offer.

These are some of the views I encountered as I walked the inland Island road from West to East. I don’t see the need for any other commentary.

I hope you enjoy this show of fall.

Salt Marsh

This salt marsh near the Clam Cove shows the effects of fall.

Rock Wall

Rock Walls. Reminders that the Island was at one time a working farm.

Foss Foundation

The Foss Foundation.   Fred Foss was a Master Stone Mason, as this dry rock foundation will attest.
